INSTALLATION GUIDE - F-8E(FN) Crusader

Extract all the files into your CFS2 or FS2000 / FS2002 root folder. The necessary sub-folders will be created automatically. The weapons are in a SEPERATE ZIPFILE. Extract this into the root folder of CFS2 (not FS2002!) and everything will go where it should. CFS2 users should pay attention to the notes below on SOUNDS.

CFS2 USERS :

1) Note on SOUNDS : CFS2 does not use the normal default Learjet sounds. Either install the Learjet from FS2K or CFS1, or edit this aircraft's sound.cfg (with Notepad) to point at some jet sounds you already have. UNLESS YOU DO THIS THE AIRCRAFT WILL NOT APPEAR IN CFS2 !

2) Note on CFS2 SMOKE EFFECTS : there is an additional file called fx_eng_exhaust_gry.fx. This will automatically be put in your CFS2 \Effects folder and will provide a very realistic subtle smoke trail behind the aircraft.

3) Note on CFS2 'Virtual Tailhook': pressing shift-g will lower the CFS2 tailhook. Please not that this has nothing to do with the visible tailhook, which is lowered at the full flaps setting, F8. With the virtual tailhook down, you will be able to use the arrestor wires on suitably-equipped carriers.

4) Note on 'CAT LAUNCH' feature - You must first set the shift-F4 keystroke to work. To this, follow these steps :

'Settings'
'Controller Assignments'
Scroll down to 'Reheat/Afterburner/on/off' and highlight it.
'Change Assignment ...'
You will be asked to enter the keystroke - hold the shift key and press F4.
Click on 'OK'

You can also use this method to add a joystick button to do the same thing.

In the game, just start the engine, go to full throttle and then press shift-F4. The aircraft will get a big speed boost up to 150 knots. You will need to press shift-F4 again, otherwise when you land you will not be able to slow beyond 150kts.

FS2002 & FS2000 USERS :

1) Note on PANELS : an alternative panel.cfg is supplied which is for FS2002 and FS2000 use only. This will allow use of the GPS facility. Just rename the existing file to panel CFS.cfg and change panel FS2K.cfg to panel.cfg.

2) Note on FS2002 SMOKE EFFECTS : there is an additional file called fx_eng_exhaust_gry.fx. This will automatically be put in your CFS2 \Effects folder and will provide a very realistic subtle smoke trail behind the aircraft when you press the i-key.
